The Sparrow Sport Special
This sharp little flying machine is a single seat tail dragger, with a fully enclosed cockpit. Featuring a clipped wing measuring 26 feet 0 inches long by a 54 inch cord, and powered by a 52 HP 503DC Rotax engine, it is a real "go machine." It is designed for short field performance and features spring loaded shocks on the mains. Mechanical brakes can be activated by toe (standard) or heel (option.) A large hard bottom baggage space is within easy reach of the pilot and can hold a sleeping bag and cooler.
Fuselage, tail feathers, landing gear and engine mount are oxy-acetylene welded assuring you of complete welds with full penetration. Airframe parts are all epoxy primed ready for covering. The wings feature our own extruded aluminum I beam (6061-T6) for spars and the preformed ribs are factory complete, ready to rivet in place. All materials used in the SPORT SPECIAL are aircraft standard and all fitting practices are aircraft approved.
The SPORT SPECIAL is totally special in performance, economy, appearance and just good ol' "plane fun" to please the most discerning of pilots. The construction and stability of its design will keep you in "safe mode" while out there playing touch tag with the thermals. For ease of construction, and the safety of a full welded steel cockpit and all aluminum framework in the wings, it is a winning combination for a long term airplane for many, many years to come.
